Tiger Woods posted a video online this week that appeared to be his response to reports about his rumored failing health.
The 13-second video posted to Twitter shows the 14-time major champion swinging a 9-iron in a golf simulator accompanied by the words “Progressing nicely.”
It was his first publicly viewed
golf swing in six months, ESPN reported. While it doesn’t necessarily mean the golfer will return to competition, it is a response to speculation on social media about his health.
The social media storm over the weekend suggested Woods could not even sit in a chair with his health worsening as he
recovers from back surgeries, The Associated Press said.
Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, denied the rumors, calling them "ridiculous and absolutely false."
"With everything that went on this weekend with Twitter exploding and the ridiculous and erroneous discussions — I don't even want to call it reporting — we were inundated with fans saying: 'Wow. How can this be true?' Clearly, it wasn't true," Steinberg told the AP. "If I picked up the phone and called you and said he's doing some chipping and putting and making some swings up to a 9-iron — and that's what the club was — is that impactful or a visual evidence of that? We felt that was a more appropriate way to go."
Woods, who has not played since August, has had three back surgeries beginning a week before the 2014 Masters.
Twitter users weighed in on the video.
